The Rutherglen Football Club offers a big thank you to everyone who helped out with all the game day jobs, from canteen and barbecue workers, to the timekeepers, scoreboard attendants and boundary umpires, especially those who made the early trip to Sandy Creek, for weekend finals action.
Without the dedication of these volunteers at the football club, like at every football club, the clubs couldn’t operate so all have done your club proud yet again.
In football action, the senior game against Wahgunyah was a game of two very different halves.
The Cats started okay but couldn’t find the goal radar and to Wahgunyah’s credit they made better use of the football in the first half and took a strong 29-point lead into the half time break.
Coach Damo put the onus onto all of the senior group at half time, but there was no doubt the supporters had some major concerns being that far down and having only one fit player on the interchange bench.
It was going to take some excellent work to wrestle back control of the game.
You would have thought that a new team had been put out on the field after half time as Coach Damo got what he wanted, with everyone lifting to contribute to what was an extremely nerve-racking but as good a win as we the club has had all year.
Great work to all on the park because it took a massive team effort to get over the Lions by 21 points in the end.
Unfortunately, the Cats are left with no time to celebrate as the job will only get harder next week, but in saying that the rewards only get bigger.
So let’s all get to Sandy Creek next week to get behind the Cats.

Another four-quarter performance from the Cats Reserves saw them come home with a very impressive 37-point win.
Every player played their part and put their head down and did the hard work when required.
Rhys Renshaw was outstanding again down back while Sam Scott, Jake Turton and Cal Dunstan had the ball on a string throughout the game.
Jono Gay stood tall and was dominant in the ruck again.

Unfortunately, the young Cats came up against a very strong Thurgoona team who ran out 33-point victors.
It certainly wasn’t an easy victory and the Bulldogs were pushed every inch of the way.
Congratulations to Duane Maloney and Matt Andison for coaching the boys to a finals series and to all the support staff involved with getting the under 17s team on the park.
These young boys are the club’s future and watching the way they approach their football reinforces the fantastic future that awaits our Cats club.
